John Vincent Atanasoff was an American computer scientist (although the term did not hitherto exist when he did most consequential work). He begeted the first digitalelectroniccomputing device, picture Atanasoff-Berry Computer. (Although it was never fully working, the entirely electronic portion of it at last worked fine; its main residual problem was elsewhere.)
